HIGHLIGHTS
Now that summers are here, it is time to set up the air conditioning of your room. The northern part of India is already burning, so are some other parts of the country, and with that, even our pockets. Turning on the AC all night and day means a high electricity bill at the end of the month.
Although modern ACs are designed in a way that they consume less energy compared to older generations, they still burn a hole in your pocket when it comes to the monthly electricity bills. So, If you are concerned about using the air conditioner most of the time thinking it will generate a high AC bill at the end of the month, we have got you covered. Here are 5 simple tips you can try to cut down on your electricity bill while using an air conditioner.
You should never set the AC at the minimum temperature. People often think that setting the AC at 16 degrees will provide better cooling, but that’s not really the case. As per the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), the ideal temperature for the human body is 24 and any AC will take less load to achieve that target. So, it is better to set the AC temperature around 24. This will save more electricity and also cut down the amount of bills.
Be it an air conditioner or any other appliance, you must always turn off the power switch when the machine is not in use. Most people tend to switch off the AC with the remote, but that shouldn’t be done. That is because, this way, a lot of electricity is wasted when the compressor is set to ‘idle load’ and that, in turn, affects the monthly bill.
All ACs come with a timer. So, it is better to use the feature instead of running the machine all night. It is always a good idea to set the timer for 2-3 hours straight before going to bed or at other times. So, when you set the timer, the AC gets turned off after a particular time. This will reduce overusing the air conditioner and also cut down on the electricity bill by a large margin.
All appliances require servicing and so do air conditioners. Though most manufacturers claim that their AC doesn’t require servicing very often, that isn’t entirely true. It is always a good idea to get your AC serviced in India as they are not used all through the year in India. So, there is a high chance that dust or other particles may damage the machine. So, it is always a good idea to service the air conditioner before the summer.
Before you turn on the air conditioner, it is advised to shut every opening of the room properly. This will help to cool the room quickly and for a much longer duration and also save up on your electricity bill at the end of the month.
